“Needs-Based” Operational/Maintenance Referendum
Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah School District – November 6, 2018
To the Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah School Community:
On November 6, residents of the ELG School District will be asked to vote on a referendum that will allow the ELG District to exceed revenue limits for a five-year period (beginning in the 2019-2020 school year) for operational and general maintenance expenses, as well as address three facility projects. These include renovation of the high school performing arts auditorium and culinary arts classroom/lab stations; and updating the high school football/soccer field lighting, bleachers and handicapped accessibility.
Receiving strong support for this proposal from the community survey, the Board of Education, at their August meeting, moved forward with this referendum as it addresses the District’s educational and facility/maintenance needs while maintaining a steady tax rate of $8.21 per $1,000 of assessed property value ($821 for each $100,000 assessed value) for the District taxpayers. The rate of $8.21 retains the 2017-18 tax rate of $7.91 for operations and general maintenance and adds on $.30 to cover the cost of the loan to do the three projects outlined above.
As a District, it continues to be important to ask our residents onlyfor what is viewed as a “need”—not a “want.” We encourage you to read the following information to learn about what is proposed. Most importantly, we encourage you to exercise your right to vote. This is your School District. You, as District residents, will be making the decision regarding the quality of programs and educational facilities offered to our students. The future is in your hands—just as it should be.
